Whether you are moving to a new city (tenyū) or within the same city or town (tenkyo), you must submit a change of address form to the municipal government office in your new location within 14 days of arriving. In addition, be sure to notify the municipal office in the location you will be leaving within 14 days before you move. They will issue you a “moving out certificate” (tenshutsu shōmeisho) which you must present when you apply for the change of address in your new location. Please take the residence cards of all your family members with you when you apply.

Foreign residents under 75 years of age who do not have any other public medical insurance must enroll in National Health Insurance. You should enroll at the municipal government office when you register your residence in Japan or when you move in to a new municipality from a different part of Japan within 14 days of your arrival. If you move to a new municipality in Japan, you should apply to your local municipal office to have your national insurance terminated and return your health insurance card.
Foreign residents who are over 20 and under 60 years of age who are not enrolled in the employees’ pension insurance system should apply to enroll in the National Pension Plan at the pension department of your local municipal government office when you register your residence in Japan within 14 days of your arrival.
When starting and terminating your water supply, please contact the office of the Kagawa Water Supply Authority in your area. If you live on Naoshima, please contact the Naoshima Town Environment and Water Supply Division (TEL: 087-892-2225).

If you have school age children and are moving out of one school district and into a new school district, you will need to apply for a change of school. Please contact the board of education where you live for more details.

When you move, you should visit the driving license division of the police station or the driving license center in the area you are moving into and apply for a change of address.
Contact your real estate agent or landlord to get the name of the electric company and notify the electric company that you are moving. If you are renting, the real estate agent or landlord may do this for you.
