Domestic violence (DV) refers to physical, mental and sexual violence committed by a spouse or partner. There are temporary shelters that provide refuge for victims of DV whose lives are endangered. It is also possible to apply to the district court in writing to receive a restraining order or an order to prohibit contact if the victim or their family is being threatened or is in danger of physical harm from a spouse or partner. If you are a victim of DV, contact the nearest police station, social services office, or women’s counselling center.
The Gender Equality Bureau of the Cabinet Office publishes information on support and counselling services for victims of domestic violence.
